4" Opuntia Beaverita "Beaver Tail" Cactus
The Opuntia beaverita, commonly known as the Beavertail Cactus, is a low-growing, clump-forming cactus native to the southwestern United States. Its flat, rounded pads resemble a beaver's tail, hence the name. This cactus blooms with vibrant magenta-pink flowers in spring and produces edible fruit known as "tunas."
Care Instructions:
Light: Thrives in full sunlight. Place in a bright, sunny location for best growth.
Watering: Drought-tolerant. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.
Soil: Prefers well-draining, sandy soil. Use a cactus or succulent mix.
Temperature: Can withstand high heat and mild frost. Ideal temperatures range between 50-90°F (10-32°C).
Fertilization: Fertilize sparingly during the growing season (spring/summer) with a balanced cactus fertilizer.
Propagation: Easily propagated from pad cuttings, allowing them to callous before planting.
This hardy cactus is an excellent choice for xeriscaping and is well-suited for desert environments.
